I'm about to start another (full trilogy) run through and I've got some serious mental dissonance going on.On the one hand, I have a fetish for cloaking, and sniper rifles (and silencers, of which there is a sad lack of throughout most of the series), so Infiltrator would seem to be the perfect fit.
But on the otherrr haaaand.combat drones are so cute and I want one. And most enemy encounters are really not designed for Shepard to be a sneaky sassoon. And dat Omega interrupt.FAK. Can't decide. Perhaps twice more through the breach, then?
I still haven't gotten around to being a real glowing Renegade. Perhaps Infiltrator would be good for that (also would make Omega interrupt irrelevant).Liara or Tali?. Dunno if you are doing a full playthrough, or just ME3. I did a full one with engineer. I don't like ME1 combat, the classes don't feel unique, so I just put it on easy. However, I did both ME2 and 3 on insanity, and engineer was awesome.
The drone distracts big enemies, like YMIR mechs, making it very easy to take them.Combat in ME3 is greater. Went with as much power damage as possible, with tanky drone and flamethrower turret. Put squadmate power usage on auto, brought Tali and Garrus along. Spawn the drone and the turret, then keep throwing out Cryo Blasts and Incinerates, and sniping them with Executioner Pistol. Just loved it.Only played Infiltrator halfway through ME3, but, needles to say, it's very strong.
Haven't gotten around a ME2 infiltrator playthrough yet. It will probably be a renegade male shep tho, on insanity. One question: can you tell me what was that interrupt in Omega DLC? I probably took it with my paragon engineer, but can't really remember what was it:/. That's a good question.
It all depends on what kind of play style you want.Do you want to lean a little more heavily on your sniper rifle than tech powers? Then go Infiltrator.Do you want to rely more on your powers?
Go Engineer.I want to address your mention of stealth and cloaking. I enjoy that kind of play style in other games too, but in my opinion the Tactical Cloak power (which isn't even in ME1) is lackluster throughout the entire franchise. In ME2 and 3 it halts your health and shield regeneration when you activate it, so its defensive application feels limited. You basically use it for extra damage on your sniper rifle shots.
But if you just use the power for offensive purposes, then you're almost better off making a solider that uses sniper rifles and spam Adrenaline Rush instead, since it's more powerful (and the time dilatation makes it easier to get head shots to boot.)If you still can't decide then I would recommend the Engineer, because that's what I had the most fun with. Engineers are strong in Mass Effect 1 because the main enemies are tech based, and they're great in Mass Effect 3 because Overload strips shields and barriers, then you can just you mop up with Incinerate on armor/health. Anything else is just for fun (like the drones). Not to mention them glorious tech explosions in Mass Effect 3, those alone are worth it. And if you want to use sniper rifles that badly, you can always choose to get sniper rifle training on the collector ship in ME2, and use sniper rifles for almost all of ME3.
You'll be SOL in ME1 unless you unlocked that bonus power on another character, though. If you have any questions, let me know. I want to address your mention of stealth and cloaking.
But if you just use the power for offensive purposes, then you're almost better off making a solider that uses sniper rifles and spam Adrenaline Rush instead, since it's more powerful (and the time daialation makes it easier to get head shots to boot.)This ignores how a tactical cloak specced to duration instead of damage opens up flanking opportunities with a CQC weapon. That's a high risk high reward sort of playstyle than 'sit at the backline cloak+snipe rinse repeat' playstyle. The way you talk about tactical cloak being lacklustre for being basically one use only ('You basically use it for extra damage on your sniper rifle shots') and then saying you'd be better off playing an entirely different class altogether made me feel you were short changing the ability and the infiltrator class as a whole. Of course you can play an infiltrator as nothing more than a sniper and tactical cloak as nothing more than a support ability for sniping, but I feel that this ignores how dynamic that skill really can be used. For example you can equip yourself with a shotgun or use your SMG and get up close and personal.
In ME2 this is particularly useful because the infiltrator only has SMGs and heavy pistols as alternatives to the sniper rifle. In ME3 you can play the entire game without equipping a sniper rifle at all. If you evolve the power for duration instead of damage that gives you way more ability to roam the battlefield to outflank enemies as well. Here's a video that illustrates the kind of playstyle I mean:And here's one in ME3 that's focused on melee plus the occasional shotgun:. One of the best things about ME3 Engineer is being able to chain overload to set off incendiary ammo detonations.Bring along James with his ammo power set to cover the whole squad.Fire off a quick burst with a rapid fire weapon. I used the Harrier, but this is personal preference.
You just need to shoot until the enemy catches fire, was insanely quick with the Harrier.Use Overload and watch the fiery explosion of doom.Repeat from step 2. By the time Overload has cooled down, the enemy will be primed for another explosion. It's so quick and efficient, I was getting constant explosion after explosion. Utterly destroys your enemies.
